Rural Russell Man Dies in Rollover Crash

LYND – A rural Russell man has died following a rollover incident on Sunday, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 4:29 Sunday evening, law enforcement personnel were dispatched near the intersection of 220th Ave and County Road 20, after a passerby observed a crashed vehicle and an unresponsive male victim within the vehicle. Upon arrival, lifesaving efforts were attempted by first responders, however the man died at the scene.   The victim was identified as 68-year-old Steven Gene Thooft of rural Russell.  The crash remains under investigation. 

Marshall Woman Dies in Two-Vehicle Collision with Semi in Kandiyohi County

WILLMAR – A Marshall woman died in a two-vehicle collision with a semi in Kandiyohi County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. BENSON – One person is dead, and four others were injured in a collision on Sunday in Chippewa County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. At approximately 12:41 Sunday afternoon, a 2019 Chevy Equinox was traveling eastbound on Highway 40 and a 2019 Dodge Caravan was traveling southbound on Highway 29. Bird Island Woman Injured in Crash Near Hector

HECTOR – A Bird Island woman was injured in a one-vehicle crash on Thursday, according to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 4:50 Thursday morning, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle crash on State Highway 4, about two miles north of Hector.   Emergency crews found a 2015 Subaru sedan in the east ditch. REDWOOD FALLS — A Georgia man failed to appear at a hearing in Redwood County District Court on Monday, according to court records. 26-year-old Mojad E. MARSHALL — Move-In Day is today at Southwest Minnesota State University. Today kicks off Gold Rush Days, a new student orientation program that runs through August 20th.   Move-In Day will have volunteers known as ‘Mustang Movers’ to help carry belongings to residence halls. The marketing company was acquired by Nick and Jill Schwarz of Marshall from Brian and Nancy Kor.   Established in 1989, AP Design started as a traditional awards and trophy shop, operated by Beth Marcotte. Brian and Nancy Kor purchased the business in 1998 and expanded their operations to include promotional products. Marshall Boy Injured in ATV Accident North of Marshall

MARSHALL – A juvenile male was injured in an ATV accident Monday afternoon, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 4:18 Monday afternoon, dispatch received a call from the 1300 block of North Bruce Street of Marshall. The caller said a passenger on an ATV was thrown from the machine. He was reportedly breathing, but not responsive.   The boy was taken to the Marshall hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the ATV was not injured.  Assistance was provided by the Marshall Police Department, North Memorial Ambulance, and North Air Care. 

Body of Marshall Man Found in BWCA Wilderness

BRULE LAKE (BWCA) -- The body of a Marshall man was found this afternoon, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities identified the body as 32-year-old Justin Sperl of Marshall. Sperl had been traveling in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and had been the subject of a missing person report on Thursday, however law enforcement were able to get in contact with Sperl on Friday. Gary, SD Man Injured in Two-Semi Collision in Yellow Medicine County Sunday

CANBY – A Gary, SD man was injured when his vehicle collided with a semi-truck in Yellow Medicine County Sunday afternoon, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. At approximately 2:46 Sunday afternoon, a 2017 International Semi and a 1995 Ford Semi were both traveling northbound on Highway 75, near Canby in Hammer Township of Yellow Medicine County, when they collided.  The driver of the Ford, 67-year-old Steve Michael Schanning of Gary, SD, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Canby hospital.
