BENSON – One person is dead, and four others were injured in a collision on Sunday in Chippewa County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. At approximately 12:41 Sunday afternoon, a 2019 Chevy Equinox was traveling eastbound on Highway 40 and a 2019 Dodge Caravan was traveling southbound on Highway 29. One of the vehicles failed to stop at a stop sign and the vehicles collided in the intersection. 

A passenger in the Chevy, 19-year-old Jori Lynn Jones of Little Canada, was taken to the Montevideo hospital where she died from injuries sustained in the accident. 

The driver of the Chevy, 19-year-old Gianna Kate Gasparini of Lakeville, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Montevideo hospital.  

Two more passengers in the Chevy, 20-year-old Kayla Marie Bluhm of Chisago City and 19-year-old Lily Kay Mortenson of Champlin, each sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the Montevideo hospital. 

The driver of the Dodge, 28-year-old Brandi Kay Rasmussen of Benson, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Benson hospital. 

Assistance was provided by the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Montevideo Police Department, Benson Fire and EMS, and Life Link Helicopter.
