Bird Island Woman Injured in Crash Near Hector

HECTOR – A Bird Island woman was injured in a one-vehicle crash on Thursday, according to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 4:50 Thursday morning, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle crash on State Highway 4, about two miles north of Hector. Emergency crews found a 2015 Subaru sedan in the east ditch. The driver of the Subaru, 58-year-old Maria Fischer of Bird Island, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Olivia Hospital. Man from Morton Sentenced for Assault in the Second Degree

RENVILLE COUNTY -- Richard Leo Peters, 56 years old, of Morton, was sentenced for the crime of Assault in the Second Degree (assault with a dangerous weapon) on Monday, August 1, 2023. On July 31, 2022, Deputy Hussman from the Renville County Sheriff’s Office responded to Peters’ residence after being informed that he may be having a possible diabetic-based medical episode. Deputy Hussman was informed that Peters had been drinking all day and was not maintaining his blood sugar levels. He entered the residence and heard Peters say, "I'm loaded and ready to go".
