Weekend Incidents from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Marshall Police Department

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports the following incidents:  On Friday at 5:38 p.m., a traffic stop was performed in the 200 block of East College Drive. A 32-year-old Marshall man was cited for having no MN driver's license and no insurance.  On Friday at 9:34 p.m., a traffic stop was performed near the intersection of River Road and State Highway 23. One Person Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision in Windom

WINDOM – A Jackson woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision in Windom on Sunday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. At approximately 10:42 Sunday morning, a 2001 GMC Yukon was traveling northbound on US Hwy 71 and a 2016 Lexus RX5 was traveling westbound on Highway 60 when they collided in the intersection.   A passenger in the GMC, 62-year-old Balinda Ann Tharp of Jackson, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Windom hospital. Two People Injured after collision on Hwy 30 in Cottonwood County

DARFUR – Two people were injured after their vehicles collided in Cottonwood County on Sunday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. At approximately 6:24 Sunday evening, a 2009 Chevy Cobalt and a 2007 Hyundai Sonata were both traveling eastbound on Highway 30 in Selma Township of Cottonwood County when they collided with each other.  The driver of the Chevy, 26-year-old Elizabeth Louise Eckhoff of Brooklyn Center, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.   The driver of the Hyundai, 38-year-old Brent Charles Tesch of Eagle Lake, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the St. James – Mayo Clinic. Hector Teen Injured in Renville County Rollover Crash

HECTOR – A Hector girl was injured in a rollover crash on Tuesday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. At approximately 12:22 a.m., a 2001 Chevy Tahoe was traveling southbound on Highway 4 when the vehicle left the roadway, entered the east ditch, and rolled.  The driver of the Chevy, a 17-year-old girl from Hector, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the North Memorial Hospital.   Assistance was provided by the Renville County Sheriff’s Office and Hector Police Department. 

Rural Russell Man Dies in Rollover Crash

LYND – A rural Russell man has died following a rollover incident on Sunday, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 4:29 Sunday evening, law enforcement personnel were dispatched near the intersection of 220th Ave and County Road 20, after a passerby observed a crashed vehicle and an unresponsive male victim within the vehicle. Upon arrival, lifesaving efforts were attempted by first responders, however the man died at the scene.   The victim was identified as 68-year-old Steven Gene Thooft of rural Russell.  The crash remains under investigation. 

Marshall Woman Dies in Two-Vehicle Collision with Semi in Kandiyohi County

WILLMAR – A Marshall woman died in a two-vehicle collision with a semi in Kandiyohi County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. At approximately 6:14 Saturday evening, a 2023 Peterbuilt Semi and a 2017 Honda Pilot collided in the intersection of Highway 40 and 45th Street SW in Kandiyohi County.  A passenger in the Honda, 51-year-old Bu Ko of Marshall, was taken to the CentraCare Hospital in Willmar where she died from injuries sustained in the accident.  The driver of the Honda, 27-year-old Kyan Day of Marshall, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.  Another passenger in the Honda, [...]

BENSON – One person is dead, and four others were injured in a collision on Sunday in Chippewa County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. At approximately 12:41 Sunday afternoon, a 2019 Chevy Equinox was traveling eastbound on Highway 40 and a 2019 Dodge Caravan was traveling southbound on Highway 29. Bird Island Woman Injured in Crash Near Hector

HECTOR – A Bird Island woman was injured in a one-vehicle crash on Thursday, according to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 4:50 Thursday morning, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle crash on State Highway 4, about two miles north of Hector.   Emergency crews found a 2015 Subaru sedan in the east ditch. REDWOOD FALLS — A Georgia man failed to appear at a hearing in Redwood County District Court on Monday, according to court records. 26-year-old Mojad E. Abras of Tucker, GA, was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign, reckless driving, having an uninsured vehicle, careless driving, and criminal vehicular operation.   The criminal complaint alleges that in March, Abras ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed and struck another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 68 and County Road 32 in Milroy. SMSU Welcoming New Students During Gold Rush Days Thur-Sun

MARSHALL — Move-In Day is today at Southwest Minnesota State University. Today kicks off Gold Rush Days, a new student orientation program that runs through August 20th.   Move-In Day will have volunteers known as ‘Mustang Movers’ to help carry belongings to residence halls. The tradition, started by the late President Doug Sweetland, has continued thanks to SMSU athletics, students, faculty, staff, and the community.   Check-in continues throughout the day until 5:00.
