HWY 68 in Marshall to be Closed Monday, July 24th for Railroad Crossing Repairs

MARSHALL – A portion of Highway 68 in Marshall will be closed at the railroad crossing on Monday, July 24th, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The affected railroad crossing is between South 7th St and South 8th St. The expected closure time is from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., however the road could reopen sooner if repairs are completed earlier than expected. Traffic will be detoured to Highway 19 and Channel Parkway during the closure.

JEFFERS – The names of the people involved in a collision last week have been released by the Minnesota State Patrol. A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 71 in Cottonwood County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. At approximately 3:11 Wednesday afternoon, a 2010 GMC Savana was traveling westbound on Highway 30 and a 2023 GMC Sierra was traveling northbound on Highway 71 when they collided in the intersection. The driver of the Savana, 20-year-old Ricardo Fernando Dumitrescu of Orlando, FL, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Windom hospital. Applications Now Open for Camp Ripley Archery Hunt

Hunters can now apply for the annual fall archery deer hunt at Camp Ripley, which will be held October 27th - 29th. The MN DNR coordinates the hunt in collaboration with the Central Lakes College Natural Resources Department and the Minnesota Department of Military Affairs. This year, a total of 2,500 permits will be made available, with the limit of two bagged deer and bonus permits may be used to take antler-less deer. JEFFERS – A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 71 in Cottonwood County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. At approximately 3:11 Wednesday afternoon, a 2010 GMC Savana was traveling westbound on Highway 30 and a 2023 GMC Sierra was traveling northbound on Highway 71 when they collided in the intersection.   The 2010 GMC Savana was driven by a man from Orlando, Florida. Sanborn Golf Cart Shed Burns Down Thursday; Faulty Charger to Blame

SANBORN -- The Sanborn Fire Department responded to a report of a golf cart shed on fire around noon on Thursday at Farmers Golf & Health Club (FGHC) in Sanborn. Upon arrival, crews found the southernmost shed fully engulfed in flames. After about 30 minutes, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to other structures. No injuries were reported. The 30-unit shed was deemed a total loss. Emerald Ash Borer Detected in Marshall

MARSHALL – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has confirmed the presence of emerald ash borer (EAB) in Lyon County for the first time. Officials say a homeowner contacted the City of Marshall about a possible EAB infestation and state ag staff were able to find larvae and collect samples.  The MDA is enacting an emergency quarantine in Lyon County, which limits the movement of firewood and ash material out of the area. Marshall City Council Approves Ordinance Halting Commercial Cannabis; Okays Apartment Proposal

MARSHALL — The Marshall City Council held a public hearing on an ordinance halting the commercial sale, manufacture or distribution of cannabis. After the hearing, the Council voted and approved the ordinance. However, the ordinance does allow the municipal liquor store to offer lower-potency THC products. The ordinance only applies to commercial use and would not prohibit people from possessing cannabis products in Marshall, or growing marijuana for personal use.
