MARSHALL — Road construction continues this week on the Highway 19/College Drive project in Marshall.

The Bruce Street and Highway 19 intersection closed Tuesday, May 26, for utility work, pavement removal, and watermain installation. At the Main Street and East College Drive intersection, crews removed pavement and the old traffic signal while preparing for curb, gutter, and concrete paving work. Temporary water lines have been set up for affected property owners, and new sewer components have arrived for installation near the intersection.

At the Main Street and East College Drive intersection, crews removed pavement and the old traffic signal while completing sewer replacement work and dirt grading. MnDOT says curb and gutter installation, concrete paving, sidewalk accessibility improvements, and underground traffic signal work are scheduled to begin this week, weather permitting.

Between Main Street and the Liberty Park Bridge, crews completed dirt work and utility work from Lyon Street to Marshall Street. Gravel base has been placed, while curb and gutter installation and sidewalk accessibility improvements are ongoing. Concrete paving was delayed by rain but is expected to begin this week. Underground electrical work for new streetlights is also underway.

MnDOT says the project includes reconstruction of Highway 19/College Drive from west of Marlene Street through the Bruce Street intersection. Improvements include a new single-lane roundabout at Highway 19, Country Club Drive, and South 2nd Street, upgraded sidewalks, new traffic control features, a bike lane, utility replacement work by the City of Marshall, and installation of an EV charging station in the Avera parking lot.

Several closures and detours remain in place. Highway 19 is closed from Main Street to the Liberty Park Bridge, with through traffic detoured to Lyon County Road 7 and Highway 23. The Main Street and Highway 19 intersection also remains closed, with traffic directed to County Road 33 and Highway 23. Businesses within the work zone remain open.
