GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation has temporarily closed the Minnesota River Bridge on Highway 212 in Granite Falls beginning Monday, June 8, as crews begin resurfacing work on the structure.
The bridge, located just east of Highway 23, is expected to remain closed for approximately two weeks. Traffic is being detoured via Highways 212, 7 and 23.
MnDOT said the closure is necessary because vibrations from vehicle traffic would interfere with the setting and hardening of new concrete placed on the bridge. The closure is the first of two planned shutdowns as part of the project.
The $1.67 million bridge resurfacing project, being completed by PCiRoads, is expected to provide a smoother driving surface and extend the bridge’s lifespan.
Motorists traveling through the area are encouraged to watch for changing traffic patterns, obey posted speed limits, avoid distractions, and never drive around barricades or road closures.
