WORTHINGTON (KMHL) – The Emerald Ash Borer has been discovered in southwest Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is placing Nobles County under an emergency quarantine after the emerald ash borer was discovered in the city of Worthington. "Many of our recent emerald ash borer finds have been along major roadways, such as this find along Interstate 90 in Worthington," said Director of MDA's Plant Protection Division, Mark Abrahamson. ROCHESTER (LEARFIELD) - Governor Walz is spreading the word to Minnesotans about the new hands-free cell phone law that goes into effect tomorrow. Advocate: Lawmakers make progress made on insulin relief bill

ST. PAUL (LEARFIELD) - State lawmakers plan to continue meeting in an effort to reach a bipartisan agreement on a deal to help lower insulin costs. Insulin4all advocate Nicole Smith-Holt is glad there's been progress. "I'm hopeful that they'll reach agreement on the funding portion and will hold pharmaceutical companies accountable to actually fund the program, that's the ultimate goal," said Smith-Holt. Lawmakers have been negotiating since the legislative session ended two months ago, but appear to still have disagreements about funding for the bill, which is named after Smith-Holt's son Alec, who died when he could not afford his insulin.

Edgerton man hurt when semi rolls near Elrosa

ELROSA (KMHL) – An Edgerton man was injured when the 2017 Freightliner semi he was driving rolled along Highway 71 in central Minnesota. The Minnesota State Patrol says Larry Nord, 74, of Edgerton, was taken to the Sauk Centre hospital with non-life threatening injuries when his rig rolled near Elrosa. Authorities say the accident happened early Monday morning.

Fire reported in Marshall High School gymnasium

MARSHALL (KMHL) – A small fire occurred last night at the Marshall High School. Firefighters responded to the fire alarm around 11 p.m. Monday night. Marshall Fire Chief Quentin Brunsvold says they believe the fire started in a sander that was being used to refinish the gym floor. He said there was very minor fire damage to the building. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and spent time ventilating the building. Former Marshall CVB Director sentenced to prison

MARSHALL (KMHL) – The former director of the Marshall Convention and Visitors Bureau has been sentenced to prison. Darren Rahm received a 68 month sentence yesterday, of which a judge ordered that at least 2/3 of the sentence will be served in prison. Rahm pleaded guilty in May to stealing more than $250,000 from the city while he was in charge of the CVB between 2015 and 2018. "I think we have mixed reaction," said Marshall Mayor Bob Byrnes.
