MARSHALL (KMHL) – The former director of the Marshall Convention and Visitors Bureau has been sentenced to prison. Darren Rahm received a 68 month sentence yesterday, of which a judge ordered that at least 2/3 of the sentence will be served in prison.

Rahm pleaded guilty in May to stealing more than $250,000 from the city while he was in charge of the CVB between 2015 and 2018.

“I think we have mixed reaction,” said Marshall Mayor Bob Byrnes. “We believe the sentence was justified and appropriate for the theft and swindle that Mr. Rahm committed against the city.”

Byrnes added that there was bit of sadness for the tragedy that Rahm brought upon himself.

The judge also granted that Rahm’s frozen assets be turned over to court administration to help pay more than $265,000 in restitution.

In a post on Facebook yesterday, Rahm said that his heart is filled with so much guilt and adds that he has much to atone for.
