ROCHESTER (LEARFIELD) – Governor Walz is spreading the word to Minnesotans about the new hands-free cell phone law that goes into effect tomorrow.

“This piece of legislation came about out of tragedies and the selfless service of families who out of incredible grief chose to make sure this law was put in place to reduce the chance of it happening to another family,” said Walz while in Rochester on Tuesday.

Minnesota is the 16th state to enact a hands-free behind the wheel law. Walz said results in other states shows the law will save lives.

“What we know is that distracted driving is one of the leading causes of accidents and fatalities,” said Walz. “In 12 of the 15 states that have hands free driving they have seen a 15 percent reduction in fatalities already.”
