Sacred Heart Township, MN — A semi-truck crashed into a power pole Tuesday morning in Renville County, leading to a DWI arrest.
On Tuesday morning at 6:56, a crash was reported on County Road 9 near 780th Avenue, about five miles south of Sacred Heart. Deputies found a 2004 Freightliner semi in a field on the east side of the road.
The semi, driven by 27-year-old Bayron Maldonado of Montevideo, was traveling south when another vehicle passed, causing the driver to brake and lose control on wet, icy roads. The truck entered the ditch and struck a power pole, snapping it off and leaving wires hanging over the roadway.
Maldonado was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor, and Maldonado was arrested at the scene for driving while impaired. The case will be forwarded to the Renville County Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
Assistance was provided by the Sacred Heart Fire Department, Xcel Energy, and Renville County Public Works.
