MARSHALL — Marshall  sought additional grant funding for a shared-use path near Marshall Middle School and Southview Elementary. The City Council supported the grant application.

The trail project was planned for 2025, connecting existing bike trails. It starts near C Street and Progress Drive, passing Marshall Middle School and Southview Elementary, with a branch leading to the elementary school.

Marshall received nearly $400,000 in federal funding for the project in 2020, but the total cost exceeded $700,000. The city applied for state Active Transportation Grant funds to cover the shortfall. Without additional grants, funding would have come from municipal state aid street funds.

Two resolutions were passed to support the grant application, designating the city as the sponsoring agency and responsible for path maintenance. Mayor Bob Byrnes abstained from voting due to his membership in the Minnesota Active Transportation Advisory Committee.
