MARSHALL — Highway 19 reopened to traffic Wednesday in Marshall as the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced a winter suspension of the two-year reconstruction project. Crews will remove detour signs and barriers on Thursday.

The multi-phase project, led by MnDOT in partnership with the City of Marshall, covers 1.8 miles of Highway 19/College Drive from Marlene Street through the Bruce Street intersection. Work includes replacing pavement, watermain and sanitary sewer systems; adding a single-lane roundabout; updating sidewalks and pedestrian ramps for better accessibility; and adjusting traffic control along the corridor to improve safety.

This year’s work rebuilt the stretch from Marlene Street to Main Street/Highway 59/Highway 68, including installation of a new roundabout at Highway 19, Country Club Drive and South 2nd Street. In 2026, crews will tackle the segment from Main Street to Bruce Street.

Once complete, MnDOT says the project will provide smoother pavement, improved drainage, better accessibility and long-term infrastructure reliability.

R and G Construction is the project’s primary contractor. The overall cost is about $25.7 million, including $15.4 million from a federal RAISE grant.
