SAINT PAUL – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has signed Emergency Executive Order 24-12, authorizing the Minnesota National Guard to aid Florida as Hurricane Milton approaches. The hurricane, rapidly intensifying and expected to overwhelm local emergency response teams, has prompted Florida to request aid through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC).

Minnesota’s emergency teams, including the National Guard, St. Louis County Mobile Command Post, and the Minnesota All Hazard Incident Management Team, are already engaged in recovery efforts in the Carolinas after Hurricane Helene, which struck just two weeks ago. The Emergency Executive Order is in effect from October 7, 2024, through November 6, 2024, or until assistance is no longer needed.

EMAC facilitates mutual aid between all 50 states, allowing states to request or provide resources during emergencies. Minnesota’s Department of Public Safety is coordinating the state’s response efforts.
