Love is in the air near the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Eagle Cam, as a pair of eagles have been actively preparing for nesting season.

Elizabeth Nault-Maurer with the Nongame Wildlife Program says the pair has been busy in the mornings, bringing sticks and grasses to their nest.

“It looks like they’re getting ready to begin their sort of breeding season and their nesting season,” said Nault-Maurer. “So there’s been a lot of activity in mornings on the Eagle Cam where they’re bringing sticks and grasses into the nest and doing some of what we affectionately call nestoration.”

However, the eagles have also been working on an alternate nest, which is visible from the Eagle Cam but won’t provide close-up views.

“We installed the new camera at this beautiful nest that this pair had been using for a couple of years. And we got the shot perfectly lined up and were watching and were waiting and started to pan the camera around and realized they were building an alternate nest,” Nault-Maurer explained.

Wildlife enthusiasts can continue to observe the eagles’ preparations through the DNR’s Eagle Cam, even as the birds make their own adjustments for the season ahead.
