Laura A. Nelson, age 104, of Hendricks, MN passed away Sunday, June 21st, 2020 at the Hendricks Nursing Home in Hendricks, MN. A private family service will be held at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN. Burial will be in the Hendricks City Cemetery.

Laura Adeline (Johnson) Nelson was born November 11, 1915, in Hector, Minnesota to Bertha (Fredrickson) and Alfred Johnson. Laura attended country school and graduated from Hector High School in 1934. Laura moved to Hendricks after graduation. Laura and Orville “Rusty” Nelson were married November 23, 1941. They were blessed with two children, Dennis and Sandra.  For many years, Laura worked as a waitress and cook for a local restaurant. Later she was employed by Lincoln County as a homemaker. She enjoyed playing Scrabble, cards and working crossword puzzles. She crocheted many doilies, dish cloths and several afghans. Laura enjoyed quilting and made more than 40 quilts that she beautifully hand stitched. She was a great cook and made delicious meals. She made many traditional Scandinavian foods that she taught her daughter and granddaughters how to make that they continue to enjoy making today. Laura loved spending time with her family and friends.  Laura was an active member of Faith Lutheran Brethren Church. She enjoyed being a member of the Ladies Mission Society and looked forward to when they worked on quilts for special projects. Laura was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary for many years and was honored as a Gold Star Mother in 1967, when their son, Dennis, was killed in Vietnam.  Because of her health, she spent the last 14 years in the Hendricks Nursing Home, but she accepted her decision with grace. She made new friends and greeted everyone with a smile.

Grateful for having shared Laura’s life are her daughter Sandi and Stan Fredricks of Arvada, CO and granddaughters Stacey and David Chamot of Arizona, Stefanie and David Canfield of South Carolina, Sheri and David Voigt of Colorado and great-grandchildren Cierra and Michael Chamot, and Alyson and Breanna Voigt.  Laura was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents, two brothers and two sisters.  Blessed be her memory of how she touched our lives during her 104 years she was with us.
