St. Paul (Learfield)-  A rally at the state capitol highlighted the push by Republican lawmakers for permanent tax cuts for Minnesotans.

Organizers from the conservative group Center for the American Experiment are urging the legislature to use the state’s more than nine-billion-dollar surplus to fund the cuts. The group calls the surplus a result of over-collection of state taxes and used the slogan, “Give it Back.”

Democrats have been reluctant to push through permanent cuts, instead opting for direct payments.
