ST. PAUL, MN – Minnesota added 14,400 jobs in August, marking the largest monthly increase since July 2022, according to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). The state’s employment grew by 0.5%, outpacing the national rate of 0.1%.

Minnesota’s unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.3%, still below the national average of 4.2%. Labor force participation remained steady.

“This is a great month for Minnesota’s jobs market,” said DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek. “We added the most jobs in a single month in two years, reflecting employers’ ongoing appetite to hire more workers.”

Leisure & Hospitality led job gains with 4,300 new positions, followed by Education & Health Services with 4,200, and Professional & Business Services with 3,900. Minnesota has added jobs in nine of the past 12 months.

Wages grew by 5.9% over the year, double the inflation rate of 2.5%. “Wage growth has consistently outpaced inflation, which is a good thing as we work to attract and retain talented workers,” said Labor Market Information Director Angelina Nguyen.
