RAPID CITY, SD – A Marshall native was recognized by Tau Beta Pi, The Engineering Honor Society. Mitchell Sueker is receiving the title of 2023 Laureate for being an engineer student that excelled in areas beyond their technical majors, including arts, athletics, diverse achievements and service. Sueker is an alumnus from South Dakota Mines and is now a Ph.D. student in biomedical engineering at the University of North Dakota. 

Sueker graduated from Mines in three years, playing basketball all three years after redshirting during his true freshman season. Sueker was recognized as Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, a two-time RMAC All-Conference honoree, and a two-time RMAC All-Academic First Team selection. Sueker is still playing basketball now with UND, where he received his master’s degree in biomedical engineering.  

A total of 121 students have been named Laureates since 1982. Tau Beta Pi was founded at Lehigh University in 1885. It is the world’s largest engineering society.
