MARSHALL — The Marshall City Council has approved a scaled-back redesign for the city’s new Aquatic Center, cutting costs while preserving key features. The revised plan, presented Tuesday, reduces the overall size of pools and buildings by 20-22%, bringing the project’s estimated cost to $18.98 million.
The new design includes a zero-depth entry recreational pool, a smaller lap and diving pool with four lanes, a leisure river, and one extended water slide. While additional features like a splash pad, climbing wall, and two more slides are listed as optional add-ons, they are not included in the base design.
The project will be funded through Marshall’s local option sales tax and $571,000 in community donations. Fundraising efforts were paused after initial bids in August exceeded estimates by $5 million. City officials hope the redesigned plan will attract more competitive bids when the project goes to tender in January, potentially reigniting community support to fund additional features.
The new Aquatic Center will replace the aging facility near Legion Field Park and increase capacity from 685 to 960 bathers, offering enhanced amenities within the revised budget.
