Oops! A College Had to Retract 1,500 Admissions, After Accidentally Sending Acceptance Letters?

If you're a high school senior, the WORST news is a college rejection letter.  Actually scratch that.  The WORST news is getting accepted, and then having it RETRACTED. Georgia State University mistakenly sent about 1,500 "Welcome!" emails for the upcoming school year.  Technically, it wasn't an official acceptance letter, but the kids who got them definitely got that impression. The school realized the error, and sent out retractions.  The follow-up notices explained the error . . . and told the students they are still being considered. Apparently, the admissions process was "incomplete," and those "Welcome!" emails were just sent out prematurely. [...]

Would YOU Want to Leave an A.I. Copy of Yourself When You Die?!?

This still seems like "future" stuff, so it's a bit scary how fast it's arriving:  A 61-year-old German man named Michael Bommer has terminal cancer . . . and he is leaving behind an A.I. version of himself. He's the first customer for a service called Eternos that creates your own A.I. double.  He's been training an A.I. to act just like him and carry on after he's passed away. You tell it your thoughts and memories, so it learns to mimic your personality, your voice, and can even generate new ideas similar to what you might think up.  They asked [...]

2024-05-15T13:43:17-05:00May 15th, 2024|Categories: KKCK|

Eminem's upcoming album is called "The Death of Slim Shady", and he's going all the way with it. He just ran an OBITUARY for Slim Shady in the "Detroit Free Press".  It features a picture of Eminem in his old-school overalls and hockey mask. It says that Shady led millions of fans down a road that, quote, "glorified a demonstrably nihilistic worldview." It adds, quote, "His complex and tortured existence has come to a close, and the legacy he leaves behind is no closer to resolution than the manner in which this character departed this world. "May he truly find the peace in an afterlife that [...]

Has a Dating App Figured Out How to Ban “Ghosting”?

2024-05-15T13:39:29-05:00May 15th, 2024|Categories: KKCK|

If you've done any online dating, you've had to deal with GHOSTING.  And even though no one enjoys being ignored . . . most people are probably guilty of it themselves to some degree.  (If not in dating, then in texting.) The dating app Hinge is trying to BAN ghosting, and it's actually a pretty interesting concept. They're testing a feature called "Your Turn Limits," which is meant to boost a focus on "quality over quantity." Here's how it works:  If a person has EIGHT or more people waiting for a response . . . then you can't start a new connection [...]

2024-05-15T13:38:45-05:00May 15th, 2024|Categories: KARL, KARZ, KKCK, KMHL|

This seems like a modern day Hardy Boys case. The perpetrator, a 21-year old man from Pennsylvania named Quasir Stephens, was arrested on burglary charges earlier this month after he left a culinary calling card for the police to decipher. Picture the scene: the police arriving to the crime scene, the apartment destroyed, but curiously the kitchen floor blanketed in Cajun seasoning. A spicy clue, with footprints weaving and winding through the seasoning. The police to wondering why? Further investigation's conducted. The victim receiving a suspicious call, an admission of guilt from Quasir. Leading the police to decide, it's time for [...]

The Great Sandwich Debate Just Went To Court

2024-05-15T11:23:04-05:00May 15th, 2024|Categories: KKCK|

We might have the answer to a question you never asked:  Are tacos SANDWICHES?  A judge in Indiana just ruled on it this week.   A man named Martin Quintana has been trying to open a taco place in a strip mall in Fort Wayne.  But he ran into some red tape thanks to a contract that limits the type of restaurants allowed.   It says you can only open a place that sells "made-to-order or subway style sandwiches."  So he sued, claiming tacos and burritos ARE sandwiches.  (The contract was designed to prevent big fast-food chains from moving in.)   His [...]

If you know all of these, you moved around a lot as a kid . . . A new study ranked the most misunderstood sayings from across the U.S.  For example, "yinz" is Pennsylvania's version of y'all.  But a third of Americans thought it was just a made-up word that didn't mean anything.  (???) Here are the 10 most misunderstood sayings from across the U.S. 1.  "Taverns" in South Dakota.  They're a type of sandwich similar to sloppy joes.   2.  "Right out straight" in Maine.  It means you're really busy.  People who aren't from Maine thought it meant you're telling the [...]

Senior Prank: A Principal Was Followed Around By a Bagpiper

2024-05-14T15:36:58-05:00May 14th, 2024|Categories: KARL, KARZ, KKCK, KMHL|

Security is so tight at schools across the country that it MUST make senior pranks a big challenge.  But apparently, a BAGPIPE PLAYER isn't suspicious enough to get stopped at the door. Students at a high school in Illinois pulled a senior prank on their principal, Mr. Robison, last week . . . by hiring a bagpiper named Scott Whitman to follow him around.  He serenaded Mr. Robison through the halls for a full 60 minutes. The students admitted the bagpiper was their "Plan B" after they initially tried to hire a mariachi band . . . but that was out [...]

Employees Are Using A.I. Bots to Snag Spots on Their Vacation Calendar

2024-05-14T15:35:12-05:00May 14th, 2024|Categories: KARL, KARZ, KKCK|

A.I. could force humans to work less.  But in one weird way, it's already HELPING us work less . . . Using bots to snag open slots on your company's VACATION CALENDAR is a new trend.  It's become a problem at Amazon warehouses. Amazon employees have two types of unpaid time off they can take.  One is normal unpaid vacation, and there's a limit to how much you can take.  The other is "Voluntary Time Off" or VTO, where your boss decides they don't need as many people working. VTO doesn't count against your vacation time, so there's a lot of competition when [...]
