MARSHALL (KMHL) – The majority of schools in the area are closed for the day – thanks to a blizzard.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning through 6 p.m. tonight. Forecasters are calling for wind gusts to 40 miles per hour.

They say plan on slippery road conditions and areas of blowing and drifting snow that could significantly reduce visibility for daytime travel and the evening commute.

Adding to the challenge, temperatures are expected to drop significantly throughout the day, so by the evening commute there could be dangerously cold wind chills as well.

The National Weather Service also has issued a wind chill warning that takes effect this evening. Forecasters say wind chill values may fall to as cold as -45 tonight.
