2024-05-29T11:20:33-05:00May 29th, 2024|Categories: KARL, KARZ, KKCK, KMHL|

The Scripps Spelling Bee finals are tomorrow night.  So Google looked at the top words ordinary Americans struggle with.   They posted a map of the top-trending "How to spell" search in all 50 states.  Here are the most EMBARRASSING ones:  11 states can't spell these words that are all six letters or less . . .   1.  California can't spell the word "pretty." 2.  New Mexico can't spell "quiet." 3.  North Dakota's dirty secret is they can't spell "secret." 4.  Kansas struggles with "chaos." 5.  Oklahoma doesn't know how to spell "animal." 6.  Michigan can't spell "cousin." 7.  Ohio can't spell [...]

The USPS Wants You to Get a Larger, Jumbo Mailbox

2024-05-28T13:34:48-05:00May 28th, 2024|Categories: KARL, KARZ, KKCK, KMHL|

If you always set your bills to "paperless," you may go DAYS without getting a SINGLE PIECE of important mail.  So THIS may seem strange: The USPS is asking people with standalone, curbside mailboxes to replace them with larger, JUMBO ones.  (And no . . . it's not to make it an easier target for bat-wielding vandals.) They want to be able to jam more PACKAGES inside. They say it's to reduce the "need for notices-left and trips to the Post Office to retrieve a package."  But let's be honest, it's also to save postal workers the time and effort of dropping them off [...]

Friday Set a New All-Time Record for Air Travel in the U.S.

2024-05-28T13:33:13-05:00May 28th, 2024|Categories: KARL, KARZ, KKCK, KMHL|

Four years ago, virtually NO ONE was flying.  Things have changed drastically since then. On Friday, the TSA said it screened 2.95 million airline passengers . . . a new record for the most ever on a single day.  They haven't said how many people flew yesterday.  The previous record of 2.91 million was set back in November. The airline industry is anticipating a record summer travel season, with an estimated 271 million passengers . . . up 6.3% from last year. In Atlanta, the world's busiest airport had its busiest day ever.  The Atlanta International Airport broke a traffic record on Thursday [...]

A Groom Shot a Wedding Guest in the Hand

2024-05-28T13:32:23-05:00May 28th, 2024|Categories: KARL, KARZ, KKCK, KMHL|

I can't decide if we should consider this a modern American wedding . . . or a throwback to the 1800s.  Maybe it's both. There was a wedding reception in Indiana earlier this month, where a scuffle broke out . . . and it culminated in the groom FIRING A GUN . . . and shooting a guest in the hand. Indiana State Police responded to a 911 call on May 18th about a possible drunken shooting at a wedding reception. The festivities were winding down, and there was an argument between a wedding guest and his wife, who was accusing [...]

Elton John Didn’t Want His “Lion King” Ballad Sung by “The Rat and The Pig”

2024-05-28T13:31:27-05:00May 28th, 2024|Categories: KARZ|

"The Lion King" celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.  Did you know, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" was supposed to be sung ENTIRELY by Timon and Pumbaa? Nathan Lane . . . who voices Timon . . . says Elton John stopped that from happening.  Quote, "Elton John was mortified . . . He said, 'The reason I wrote the score was because I wanted to have a Disney love song . . . "'I didn't want it to be sung by the rat and the pig' . . . [Ernie Sabella and I] sang the whole thing in our character voices . . . It's hard to [...]

A Study Found Tattoos Might Cause Cancer

2024-05-28T13:30:49-05:00May 28th, 2024|Categories: KKCK|

If you didn't already regret that lower back tattoo from spring break, you might after this:  A study found tattoos might cause CANCER.  (!!!) Researchers in Sweden looked at 12,000 patients and found people with tattoos had a 21% higher risk for lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. They say the ink triggers an immune response and some of it gets deposited into your lymph nodes.  They think the low-grade inflammation from it might be the cause, but they're not sure. They don't expect people to stop getting inked up.  They just want to figure out how to make the ink safer.  [...]

The Average Person Starts to Get More Negative at the Age of 42

2024-05-28T13:29:59-05:00May 28th, 2024|Categories: KMHL|

We're entering a new season, and that CAN be a time for optimism . . . or, I guess, just more whining about inflation and politics. A new survey asked people if they feel more POSITIVE or NEGATIVE as they age . . . and 18% of people say their mood has become a LOT more positive as they've aged, and 26% more say they're generally more positive. Only 5% say they feel like they're becoming a LOT more negative with each passing year . . . while 19% think they're slowly becoming more of a downer. 33% don't notice much [...]

2024-05-24T17:33:56-05:00May 24th, 2024|Categories: KARZ, KKCK|

People online are debating the things everyone just PRETENDS to enjoy . . . and somehow "other people's kids" was not the most popular answer. Here are some of the best responses . . . 1.  LinkedIn   2.  High heels   3.  Family Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings   4.  Edible arrangements   5.  Cold plunges in ice   6.  Running   7.  Small talk   8.  Voluntarily waking up at 5:00 A.M.   9.  Gender reveal parties.  (Of course, they're talking about those who SURVIVED gender reveal parties.)   10.  Twitter or "X" or whatever. Some people suggested more controversial things, [...]

A Basic Memorial Day Cookout Will Cost $30.18 This Year

2024-05-24T17:32:53-05:00May 24th, 2024|Categories: KARL, KARZ, KKCK, KMHL|

Your Memorial Day cookout might cost a little more than last year. "Consumer Affairs" looked at how much seven barbecue staples cost now compared to 2023, and it's a 10% bump.  $27.39 a year ago, and $30.18 now. Most of that is because hamburger meat prices are up, but nothing on the list is cheaper than it was in 2023. They compared data from over 150,000 stores across the country and looked at what you'd need for a basic cookout with burgers and dogs.  Here are all seven items, and what they'll cost the average American this year. 1.  Eight burgers:  $8.07, up 15%.
