“The Lion King” celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.  Did you know, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” was supposed to be sung ENTIRELY by Timon and Pumbaa?

Nathan Lane . . . who voices Timon . . . says Elton John stopped that from happening.  Quote, “Elton John was mortified . . . He said, ‘The reason I wrote the score was because I wanted to have a Disney love song . . .

“‘I didn’t want it to be sung by the rat and the pig’ . . . [Ernie Sabella and I] sang the whole thing in our character voices . . . It’s hard to do that and be romantic.  Elton was right.”

In the final version that you hear in the movie, Timon and Pumbaa are only at the beginning and end of the song.

(Elton actually won his first Oscar for Best Original Song for HIS recorded version.)  (EW)
