Bus collides with several vehicles in Granite Falls as driver experiences medical emergency

GRANITE FALLS (KMHL) – There were a scary few moments in Granite Falls yesterday afternoon. The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of a Renville County West School bus was experiencing a medical emergency yesterday afternoon along Highway 212 in Granite Falls. The bus collided with several vehicles along the highway and did not stop. Sheriff’s officials say a deputy was able to slow the bus and a passerby jumped into the bus to put it in park. The condition of the driver is unknown at this time.

2 people charged with Magellan pipeline leak

MARSHALL (KMHL) – Charges have been filed against two men in connection with the Magellan Pipeline leak that occurred nearly three months ago. Tanner Sik, 19, has been charged with first-degree criminal damage to property and Eric Weckwerth Pineda, 23, also faces a charge of aiding and abetting property damage. Sik appeared in Lyon County District Court yesterday, while Weckwerth Pineda did not appear for a scheduled hearing. A criminal complaint alleges Sik and Pineda were shooting guns near the Cottonwood Lake Dam, when Sik shot at and struck the pipeline. Hands free cell phone law takes effect August 1st

MARSHALL (KMHL) – Consider yourself warned! Minnesota's new hands free cell phone law will take effect August 1st - and don't expect a lot of leeway from law enforcement. Marshall Director of Public Safety, Jim Marshall says the new law is pretty straight forward and will be much easier to enforce. Marshall School Board approves E – Learning day plan

MARSHALL (KMHL) – The Marshall School District now has an E-Learning Day plan. The school board approved a proposal at their meeting Tuesday night. The plan will allow the district to use up to 5 E-Learning days a year in the event that weather causes multiple school closures starting this fall. It will make teachers available by phone, e-mail or through a digital learning space during the school day. It gives teachers the flexibility to work from home or from school on the E-learning days. Marshall man faces 3 felony counts from Friday fire

MARSHALL (KMHL) – A Marshall man has been charged with three felonies including first-degree arson from after allegedly setting fire to an attached garage Friday afternoon northeast of Marshall. Tyson Hinckley, 33, of Marshall, is facing three felony charges. According to the criminal complaint, Hinckley admitted to investigators that he set the fire for the “protection of his own life.” In addition to first-degree arson, Hinckley was also charged with second-degree burglary and theft of a moving vehicle.
