Washington man hurt when semi collides with a train south of Ruthton

RUTHTON (KMHL) – A Washington man was hurt when a semi-trailer collided with with a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train south of Ruthton Wednesday. The Pipestone County Sheriff’s office says the crash occurred yesterday shortly after 4 p.m near the intersection of Highway 23 and 201st street in rural Pipestone County. Authorities say the Peterbuilt semi was pulling a base section of a wind tower. The train sustained moderate damage, while the truck and trailer sustained severe damage. Luverne native, recent SMSU grad killed in 4-car accident near Brandon, SD

BRANDON, SOUTH DAKOTA (LEARFIELD) – A 22-year-old Luverne woman was killed in a crash that shut down a portion of Interstate 90 west of Brandon, South Dakota earlier this week. Brooke Thompson, of Luverne, was killed in the four-vehicle crash. Thompson was a 2018 graduate of Southwest Minnesota State University. GRANITE FALLS (KMHL) – If you were hoping for State Highway 67 to re-open soon southeast of Granite Falls, don’t hold your breath. The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced yesterday that movement of the earth under the highway has caused significant cracking in the highway. Study recommends city replace Marshall Aquatic Center

MARSHALL (KMHL) – The Marshall City Council heard a presentation on the future of the Marshall Aquatic Center Tuesday. The presentation, which followed a study the council ordered in January, is recommending the city replace the 50-year-old aquatic center. Mark Wentzell of 292 Design told the council the facility is showing its age. Texas man pleads guilty to burglary, theft in Marshall

MARSHALL (KMHL) – A Texas man pleaded guilty to three felony charges including burglary and theft in Marshall last month. Gerardo Granados, 22, of Dallas, admitted in a court hearing yesterday to breaking into a shed at the Marshall Middle School and stealing a pickup truck and other equipment that belonged to the school. He pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle. Under terms of the plea agreement, Granados’ prison sentence would be stayed, but he would have probation and serve time in jail.
