Democrats and Republicans far apart on 2020 Bonding bill

ST. PAUL (LEARFIELD) - The widest gulf in recent memory between Minnesota Republicans and Democrats on an upcoming 2020 bonding package for state public works projects. Senate Republicans say their number will be around 700 million dollars, while House Democrats plan a whopping 3.5 billion dollars, possibly the biggest bonding proposal ever. "We've been playing catch up and we've been applying band-aids," said Rep. Mary Murphy (D-Hermantown). "We've been repeatedly told there was no risk and we could safely spend that amount of money." Open house set for MERIT Center Track expansion

MARSHALL (KMHL) – Organizers are holding an open house this afternoon and evening at the MERIT Center’s expanded driving track in Marshall. The event is being held this afternoon from 3 until 6:30. Construction on the expanded track was recently completed at the training facility. The event will showcase how the track will be used for public safety and industry training. Demonstrations will be provided by the Minnesota State Patrol, the Marshall Police Department, the Marshall Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance.

Marshall Police to begin wearing body cameras

MARSHALL (KMHL) – Marshall Police officers will soon be wearing body cameras. The Marshall City Council approved a proposal to start a body-worn camera program at their regular meeting last night. Council members also approved the purchase of around $50,000 worth of equipment to get the program started. Police will use money from its forfeiture fund to pay for the cameras. The program will allow the city's officers to join a growing trend of officers around the state and country wearing the cameras.

Lyon County Commissioners approve curbside recycling program

MARSHALL (KMHL) – The Lyon County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a curbside recycling pickup program to keep the service running. Commissioners approved a contract with Southwest Sanitation to continue the program, but on an every-other-week schedule.  The new schedule will begin November 1 and run through April 2021. The agreement with Southwest Sanitation has a monthly base cost of just over $30,000. The contract also gives Southwest Sanitation the right to refuse recycling carts containing improper materials.
