Vernon Waltz, age 84, of Canby, MN, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at the Sanford Canby Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2025 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby. Burial will be in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Canby. Visitation will be 1 – 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby and will resume Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby is entrusted with the arrangements.
Vernon John Waltz was born on July 19th, 1940 in Canby, MN to Jake and Leona (Gessert) Waltz. He was raised in Canby, attended country school until the 8th grade and then started working on the family farm. He then met Susan in 1968 while working on a pipeline in Peterson, Iowa with his brother Charles. They were United into marriage in 1969 and were married for 44 years until Susan died in 2013. They made their home in Canby, MN where they raised their three children: Shelly, Jennifer and Jeremy. Vernon owned and operated his own septic tank cleaning business. He also worked a variety of jobs with his last one being Schotts. Vernon passed away on Feb 5th, 2025 at Sanford Canby Medical Center at the age of 84. Vernon enjoyed caring for his beloved dog Pepper, fishing, woodworking, crafts, stained glass, building/flying RC model airplanes and the challenge of fixing and repairing things. He also was always willing to give someone a helping hand when they needed it.
Vernon is survived by his children: Shelly Jensen (Scott Lynne), Jennifer (Jamie) Witzel & Jeremy (Nicole) Waltz, all of Montevideo, MN; sister Bernadette (Dallas) Larson of Lantana, Texas; brother Robert Waltz of Marshall, MN; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins. Vernon is preceded into death by his wife, parents, mother and father-in-law, two sisters, one brother, four sisters -in-law, and brothers-in-law.
