LeRoy Ralph Neisius was born on February 24, 1943, in rural Minneota, Minnesota. He was the son of Ralph and Mary (Schuler) Neisius. LeRoy grew up on a farm and attended school in Minneota and then enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard from 1962-1968. On August 13, 1966, LeRoy was united in marriage to Diann Reed at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley, Minnesota. The couple farmed together and raised their family in the Hanley Falls area. Their farm was a busy place as many animals were shown at the county fair. They enjoyed dancing the night away at The Blue Moon or playing cards deep into the night with their card club. LeRoy served on the Normania Township Board and was a 4-H Leader with the YMC Horse Project. This led to a lifelong love of attending and watching rodeo events. He and Diann retired and moved to Marshall in 2000. LeRoy enjoyed camping and horseback riding with his family, friends, and neighbors. A special friendship formed when LeRoy and Diann met “the Canadians” on a trip to the Bahamas. Their families were introduced to farm life and continue visiting every summer since 1982, creating countless treasured memories. LeRoy also had a passion for fishing – whether it was in the boat or on the ice, there was always a wager on the line to catch the first, the biggest, and the last fish. In 1993, LeRoy was diagnosed with MS, but he was intentional about keeping a positive mindset and refused to let that diagnosis slow him down. He always said, “nobody wants to be around a grump!” Even after he lost his physical mobility, LeRoy’s sharp mind helped him continue to supervise the farming operation, attend fishing excursions, stay active in home and building projects. He had a special talent for assessing a situation, no matter the obstacle, and providing solutions to his children and grandchildren. Each summer LeRoy looked forward to attending MS Camp with his daughter, Leann. In the fall, he never missed a harvest or an opportunity to ride in the combine.
LeRoy passed away peacefully at his home on June 21, 2026, under the care of his family and Prairie Home Hospice. He reached the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 28 days. Blessed and eternal be his memory.
