GREEN VALLEY — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a collision between a train and a semi truck north of Green Valley Thursday afternoon.

The crash occurred around noon near the intersection of Lyon County Road 22 and Minnesota Highway 23, where a BNSF rail line crosses the road. Authorities said the train did not derail, and no injuries were reported to the train crew or the semi driver, a 75-year-old rural Cottonwood man.

The 2025 Volvo semi truck sustained damage and was towed from the scene by Marshall Truck Salvage. A Lyon County deputy remained on scene for about 5 1/2 hours.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash.

As of midday Friday, no new information was available on possible train damage or disruption to rail traffic.
