Longtime Marshall Hy-Vee Employees Honored on Semi-trailer

MARSHALL, Minn. — Three Marshall Hy-Vee employees with more than 40 years of service were honored Monday as their pictures were unveiled on the side of a Hy-Vee semi-trailer.

The employees featured on the truck are bakery clerk Sylvia Nenortas, meat clerk Tom Pickering and recently retired food service manager Michael Schultz.

Marshall Hy-Vee Store Director Jeff Thompson said having three employees from the same store featured on the same semi is a special accomplishment.

“Yeah, it’s a really special honor to have three employees with over 40 years of service. Hy-Vee started to feature Hy-Vee employees on the side of the semis with their years of service, and to have three of them at one store on the same semi at the same time is a pretty amazing accomplishment,” Thompson said. “We’re really proud of them and thankful for their years of service and everything they did to take care of our customers, and some still continue to take care of our customers. It’s really special, and we couldn’t do it without them.”

Nenortas has worked at the Marshall store for 43 years.

“This day is awesome. Forty years is a long time. I’ve actually been with the store 43 years. I never thought I would be in one spot after living in Iowa this long. So, it’s pretty awesome what Hy-Vee does for their employees,” Nenortas said.

Pickering said seeing his picture on a semi is a special way to be recognized for his years with the company.

“Oh, it was pretty cool, man. I mean, to be on a semi like that and have my family see it and everything, it’s just awesome. I mean, I’ve worked a lot of years, and to be appreciated like this by Hy-Vee, it’s pretty special,” Pickering said.

Schultz, who recently retired, said he was excited to learn he would be featured on the truck.

“My time with Hy-Vee was amazing. It’s a great company to work for. When I found out they were going to put me on a semi, I was just ecstatic. It’s amazing. I’ve got a lot of family and a lot of friends here,” Schultz said.
