If you’re trying to eat healthy on a budget, here’s some help . . .
“Food & Wine” ranked the top fruits and veggies to buy if you’re trying to save money on your grocery bill. They looked at the ones that are cheapest, and/or last a while so you can buy in bulk.
1. Celery. It’s good in soups, stir-fries, or on its own as a snack. Add peanut butter if you need to.
2. Bananas. They don’t last long, but you get a lot of bang for your buck. Toss them in oatmeal or cereal, or just eat them on their own as a snack.
3. Potatoes. A baked potato can be a pretty cheap meal on its own. Plus, they last a long time.
4. Onions. Good in everything from salads to sandwiches. They’re cheap and last forever.
5. Cabbage. A lot of people don’t buy it, because they don’t know what to do with it. Again, it’s great in soups and stir-fries. Or make homemade coleslaw.
6. Carrots. Stews, soups, salads, or on their own. Pair them with that celery you just bought, and dip them in stuff.
