MARSHALL, MN — The Marshall City Council approved a contract Tuesday to move forward with plans to replace the aging band shell at Liberty Park.
Council members authorized a proposal of up to $97,633 with Koch Hazard Architects of Sioux Falls to provide design and engineering services for a new structure. The city issued a request for proposals for architectural services in January and received 11 submissions before interviewing five firms in late February.
Marshall Parks and Recreation staff recommended Koch Hazard, citing the firm’s experience designing outdoor performance venues. The project team is expected to include RISE Structural Associates and Stockwell Engineers.
The current band shell, built in the 1950s, has developed structural issues including a shifting foundation. Marshall previously received a $498,000 grant from the Minnesota Historical Society through its Commemorative Statues, Memorials and Historic Preservation program to support replacing the structure.
City officials said developing a design concept will help advance fundraising and planning for the project.
