Suspected Human Remains Found in Burned-Up Vehicle Near Bird Island

BIRD ISLAND, MN (KMHL) — The Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a report Sunday afternoon of a burned-up vehicle located in a drainage ditch about a mile west of Bird Island. When law enforcement officials arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. Officials were able to identify suspected human remains in the vehicle. The suspected human remains will be sent to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for identification, and determination of the cause and manner of death. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol. The investigation is ongoing.
