MARSHALL — Southwest Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) will hold its Commencement tomorrow morning at the R/A Facility. Doors will open at 9:00 and the Commencement ceremony will begin at 10:00. The Commencement address will be given by Haywood Boston, Jr., a 1978 alumnus, and high school girls’ basketball coach in Des Moines, Iowa.
In addition to the main ceremony on Saturday, the International Sash and the Nurse Pinning ceremonies will be held on Friday. The International students receive sashes representing their home countries to wear during Saturday’s commencement. Students graduating from the RN to BSN program receive a commemorative pin which is a tradition in the nursing field.
350 undergraduate and graduate students will participate in the ceremony. Master’s degree recipients will also receive their master’s hoods as they make their way across the stage. The award for Outstanding Senior will also be presented during the ceremony.
Following Commencement, a reception will be held in the upper level of the Student Center for students and their families.
