MARSHALL (KMHL) – Southwest Minnesota State University announced yesterday that it is cancelling the Class of 2020’s Commencement ceremony, which had been rescheduled for September 26th from last May.
“Restrictions put in place across Minnesota to contain COVID-19 limited our options for providing a meaningful graduation ceremony to students and their families,” said SMSU Provost Ross Wastvedt, in a press release yesterday.
He added that rather than compromise the goal, the university is looking at other ways of celebrating their students’ accomplishments.
SMSU says the Class of 2020 alumni will be contacted via email and given several options about how they would like their graduation recognized.
The university says their input will inform a final decision, to be made early this fall.
