On March 13th, 2024 at 8:23 a.m. Murray County deputies located a vehicle known to be driven by Sean Eric Vanmeveren. As Murray County deputies were setting up a perimeter to attempt to make an arrest, Vanmeveren got into his vehicle and began driving toward two Murray County deputies. Once Vanmeveren saw the deputies he accelerated his vehicle around the waiting deputies. Deputies were able to identify Vanmeveren as the driver and a pursuit began.  

Deputies pursued Vanmeveren for about six miles, Vanmeveren entered a rural Murray County farm site. Vanmeveren exited his vehicle and stole a vehicle from the farm. Vanmeveren led deputies and assisting agencies on an approximate 45-mile pursuit through Murray and Cottonwood counties. Vanmeveren then stole a second vehicle at a rural address near Westbrook. While the pursuit continued through the City of Westbrook, the school was placed in a brief lockdown.  

The pursuit came to an end just northwest of Dovray. Vanmeveren was taken into custody without further incident. During the pursuit, Vanmeveren made at least 5 attempts to ram pursuing officers’ vehicles, with complete disregard for the safety of the public and law enforcement.  

Vanmeveren is wanted for his connection to vehicle theft, property theft, and pursuits in the counties of Murray, Cottonwood, Redwood, Jackson, Blue Earth, as well as Emmet County in Iowa. 

The Murray County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Slayton Police Department, Buffalo Ridge Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office, Westbrook Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota DNR, and Westbrook Area Ambulance.
