Raymond Root, age 68, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Friday, December 3, 2021, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. Memorial Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall, Minnesota.  Attendees will then gather to remember Ray afterword, likely at Fuzzy’s in Marshall – more details coming soon. Mass of Christian Burial for Raymond DeVos, 93, of Taunton, will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment with military honors will follow the service at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Taunton. Raymond Emil DeVos was born on August 9, 1928, at the Canby Hospital to Emil and Hattie (Fier) DeVos. Deadline To Apply For School COVID Testing Money Extended

Schools across Minnesota are getting more time to apply for grants that will help fund COVID-19 testing programs for students and staff.  Education Commissioner Heather Mueller says schools now have until October 15th to apply for the grants.  To find more information about the program, the grants and how to apply, visit the Minnesota Department of Education's website.

Midwest Governors Create EV Charging Network

Governor Tim Walz and four other governors in the Midwest are teaming up to build a new electric vehicle charging network in the Midwest.  According to a news release, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin are creating REV Midwest which aims to "collectively accelerate vehicle electrification" in the region.  The governors believe REV Midwest will help reduce toxic emissions and ultimately benefit public health due to cleaner air.  Officials hope to launch the EV (Electric Vehicle) charging infrastructure by 2030.

Domestic Violence Killings At 5-Year High

A new report says domestic violence homicides in Minnesota are at a five-year high.  According to Violence Free Minnesota, at least 30 residents died from intimate partner violence in 2020.  The statewide coalition, which compiled data from public records, also found that at least 20 underage children were left without a parent due to this violence.  Experts say quarantines and economic instability from the COVID-19 pandemic were factors in the increase.
