OLIVIA, MN (KMHL) — According to the Renville County Attorney’s Office, 45-year-old Luciano Martin was found guilty of Felony Assault in the Second Degree and Felony Domestic Assault on Friday after the jury deliberated for just over one hour.

According to the criminal complaint and testimony at trial, in May of 2022, Martin was living with the victim in Olivia after they moved there together from Litchfield. An argument broke out and Martin attacked the victim hitting her on the head and yelling at her. The victim attempted to leave the residence to call law enforcement, but Martin stopped her with a kitchen knife. Then Martin repeatedly hit the victim in the head while holding the knife. The victim used Facebook Messenger to contact a friend, who then contacted law enforcement.

When law enforcement officials arrived, Martin gave officers a false name and date of birth. Martin has at least seven convictions for domestic violence-related offenses in his past including domestic assault, threats of violence, stalking with intent to injure, domestic assault strangulation, and interfering with 911 calls. Mr. Martin also has two pending files in Blue Earth and Nicollet Counties for domestic assault and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

Martin will be sentenced in January and is facing 39-54 months in prison.
