Mass of Christian Burial for Myron Sustacek, 86, of Marshall, formerly of Ghent, will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Local honors provided by U.S. American Legion Post 113 of Marshall.

Myron Francis Sustacek was born on October 9, 1933, in Hassen Valley Township to Emil and Hattie (Pulkrabek) Sustacek. He grew up and graduated from high school in Hutchinson, MN. Myron enlisted and served in the U.S. Army for three years. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Cloud State University, and his Masters of Education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. In Greeley, Myron met his future wife, Joyce Ebert. The couple was married on August 26, 1961. Myron taught and coached in Danube for 22 years. He later taught at the Itasca Community College in Grand Rapids for two years. In 1987, he began teaching at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall and continued teaching until his retirement in 2017.  Myron was an active member of the American Legion wherever he lived. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, fishing, and bowling. Myron also enjoyed attending SMSU basketball and volleyball games.

Myron died on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at the Moments Memory Care Center in Lakeville, MN. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Marshall, children Mary Kay (and Dale) Frisvold of Garvin, Steve (and Jennifer) Sustacek of St. Michael, Dan (and Sonya) Sustacek of Rosemount, Jim (and Katy) Sustacek of Minneapolis, grandchildren John Frisvold, Ryan, Rachel, Raelin, Hattie and Josie Sustacek, brother John (and Anna) Sustacek of Orange, CA and sister Sharon (and Loren) Maresh of Glencoe. He was preceded in death by his sister Doris (and Dick) Stacey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the SMSU Foundation (Founders Hall, 1501 State Street, Marshall, MN 56258), in Myron’s name.
