Harold Walter Schulz was born October 1, 1943, in Wood Lake Township, Yellow Medicine County, MN, to Walter and Erma (Kirschbaum) Schulz. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake on October 31, 1943. He grew up on the family farm north of Wood Lake where he was a farm boy at heart, driving tractor and milking cows at an early age. He attended St. John’s Parochial School through the eighth grade. He was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church on May 5, 1957. He attended Wood Lake Public School, graduating in May 1963. Harold worked as a hired hand for a number of local farmers before joining a farming partnership with his father, Walter. During this time he met and fell in love with his future bride, Florence Ann Coy. On October 10, 1964, they were united in marriage in Montevideo, MN. The couple first settled on a farm place three miles west of Wood Lake. During this time they started their family with the birth of their two oldest boys, Warren and Brian. In 1970, they moved to the Schulz Homestead one mile north of Wood Lake. They farmed the Schulz Homestead for 30 years. During this time, Harold sold seed corn, raised cattle, and tended to many different crops. The couple increased their family with three more children: Scott, Mark, and Crystal. They built a new home in 1979 and moved the family’s 125 year old home into Wood Lake. Harold was active as church treasurer, men’s club, church choir, a member of the Wood Lake Co-op, and the Echo-Wood Lake School Board. Harold continued to farm part-time by completing custom farm work for local farmers before retiring. In retirement, Harold and Florence enjoyed traveling to many different places. Harold found great enjoyment spending time with his seven grandchildren and watching them grow up. In 2019, the couple moved to Belle Plaine, MN, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In 2022, he moved into Oak Terrace in Jordan, MN, were he passed away on July 5, 2024.
