Minnesotans who need assistance filing their taxes can now access more than 200 free tax preparation sites across the state. These Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites are open through April 15th to help eligible taxpayers navigate the filing process.
“You have to meet one of four qualifications,” said Department of Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart. “So you have to be 60 years of age or older, be a person with a disability, speak limited or no English, and or have an annual income of $67,000 or less.”
Marquart emphasized the importance of these free tax prep sites, noting that they provide certified volunteers who offer one-on-one assistance. “Taxes can be very complicated, and so these free tax preparation sites are volunteers, people there who are certified in these tax returns and they can give that one-on-one personalized help for that taxpayer,” he said.
Taxpayers in Marshall can contact United Community Action Partnership, located at 1400 S Saratoga Street. Taxpayers can also find a nearby site and learn more about eligibility by visiting the Minnesota Department of Revenue’s website.
