ST PAUL — Governor Tim Walz has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state buildings in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023 in honor and remembrance of Deputy Josh Owen of the Pope County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Josh Owen died responding to a domestic assault call in Cyrus on April 15th. Deputy Josh Owen served a total of 14 years in law enforcement, 12 with the Pope County Sheriff’s Office.
Governor Walz in the proclamation he signed today said, “Deputy Owen was a dedicated law enforcement officer and a veteran of the Minnesota National Guard who was respected by his family, friends, and colleagues.”
Deputy Owen is survived by his wife, Shannon, and his son, Rylan.
The proclamation also stated, “With its deepest gratitude, the State of Minnesota recognizes Deputy Josh Owen for his dedicated service to, and sacrifice for, his fellow Minnesotans, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and community.”
