COTTONWOOD, Minn. — A Wood Lake Fire Department truck overturned Friday evening near Lakeview School, leaving one person dead and two others injured.
According to the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a report of the crash at 6:36 p.m. on Friday, September 26. The truck had been traveling north on 490th Street when it tipped onto its side in the west ditch, about one-eighth mile north of 160th Avenue.
Three people were inside at the time. A 43-year-old passenger, whose name has not yet been released, was found trapped under the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, 37-year-old Andrew Vanhecke, and passenger, a six-year-old juvenile, both of Wood Lake, were transported to Avera Marshall Hospital before being flown to Avera Sioux Falls by air ambulance. Their current conditions have not been released.
Responding agencies included the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Granite Falls and Cottonwood Ambulances, Cottonwood Fire Department, Midwest Medical Examiner, Pulver’s Towing, and Hamilton Funeral Home.
The crash remains under investigation.
