Snowmobile Safety Field Day

Snowmobile safety field day is for youth 12 to 15 years of age who wish to obtain their snowmobile safety certificate. Students must complete the online class before attending the field day.

Christmas in Garvin

Christmas in Garvin is December 4th, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm downtown outside on Sherman Street.  Bring your Christmas wish letters & visit with Santa!  Treat bags for the youngsters.  Bring your camera! Sponsored by the Garvin Business Club.  (If inclement weather, will be pass through in Garvin City Hall).

SMSU’s A Very Prairie Christmas

‘A Very Prairie Christmas’ Concert  Dec. 4  Marshall, Minnesota – Southwest Minnesota State University’s Fine Arts Department will present “A Very Prairie Christmas” on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. in the Schwan Community Center for the Performing Arts at Marshall High School. The concert features the SMSU Jazz Ensemble, Alta Voce, Glee Club, SMSU Chorale, and the SMSU/Community Concert Band.  If there is inclement weather, the show will be moved to Sunday, December 5th at the same time and location. Weekly Bar Bingo

Weekly Bar Bingo at Walnut Grove American Legion will repeat on a weekly basis starting on November 6th. The Walnut Grove Area Loggers are sponsoring the weekly Saturday Night Bingo. Starting @ 6:30 pm every Saturday, from Dec. 4th, 2021 thru Dec. 18th, 2021 you can come down to the Walnut Grove American Legion for Bar Bingo with friends.

Play Like a Girl: A Celebration of Women Composers

On Monday, December 6th at 7:30 p.m., the SMSU Jazz Ensemble will perform their fall concert entitled "Hear Me Roar: A Celebration of Women Composers". This will be the second in a series of concerts featuring music written by some of the finest female composers. This concert will include music by some of the pioneers of jazz including Mary Lou Williams, Lillian Hardin Armstrong, and Toshiko Akiyoshi. The concert is free and open to the public in the SMSU Fine Arts Theatre.

Winter Gear Drive

Lyon County 4-H is once again holding their Winter Gear Drive on December 11th at the Adult community center. We are also accepting donations of gently used winter gear of all sized until December 10th at the Lyon County Extension office out at the fairgrounds. Drop box available.

Christmas Cookie Walk

Holy Redeemer Council of Catholic Women is hosting their 9th Annual Cookie Walk. Join us in Carlin Hall (HR Church basement). Purchase a bucket for $15 or bring your previously purchased bucket and only pay $13. Fill your bucket with a variety of homemade Christmas treats. While supplies last.

SMSU’s Star of Wonder Planetarium Show

‘Star of Wonder’ Planetarium Show at SMSU  Marshall, Minn. — A series of Planetarium Christmas and laser light shows entitled “Star of Wonder” will be held at Southwest Minnesota State University in December. The dates for the shows are December 11 from 7-8 p.m., December 18 from 7-8 p.m., December 19 from 2-3 p.m., and December 24 from 2-3 p.m. The SMSU Planetarium is located in the Science and Math building, room 108. There is conversation on whether this phenomenon was either a star, planet, or supernova of some sort. TubaChristmas

TubaChristmas is BACK at SMSU! On Saturday, December 11th, the Music Program will again host TubaChristmas. This event is coordinated by the Harvey Phillips Foundation, and organization devoted to celebrating the tuba and euphonium and the performers and composers of those instruments. Participation is open to any low brass player (trombone, euphonium, and tuba) regardless of age or ability. There is a $10 participation fee that goes to the Harvey Phillips Foundation.
