American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life

Thursday, August 19th, the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Lyon County is taking place. In conjunction with Sounds of Summer, there will be Live Music, Jimmy's Chili Cook-off, Cold Stone Ice Cream, a Live Auction, and much more! Rotary Pancake Breakfast

The Marshall Sunrise Rotary Club will be serving a pancake breakfast! Besides a great breakfast, there will be fun activities for everyone. This is a major fund raiser for the Inclusive Playground Park to be built in Marshall. The funds will go to help pay for playground equipment that can be accessed by children of any ability and allow children with physical disabilities to enjoy a variety of play equipment in a safe environment.

Saturday, August 21 from 10:30-12 Monarch Tagging Activity Prairie Restoration Area, near upper campground Help researchers track monarch migration. Learn about monarch life cycles, migration, and the importance of providing monarch habitats with Dr. Alyssa Anderson, Associate Professor of Biology at SMSU.

Drive-Up Movie

All are welcome to pull up their cars to the Living Word parking lot on Sunday, August 22nd @ 9pm to watch our outdoor presentation of the movie "I Still Believe". This romantic drama fictionalizes Jeremy Camp's rise to prominence as a Christian musician, his tragically brief marriage to his first wife Melissa (who eventually lost her battle with ovarian cancer) and how his faith helped him overcome his grief. Saturday, August 28 from 9:00am-10:00am KIDS CRAFT The Water Cycle in Water Color Playground near Beach Learn about the water cycle as you make a rain cloud gravity painting project. Free, come and go activity. Craft takes approximately 10 minutes and is geared toward ages 5-12. All ages welcome.

Star Watch with Mike Lynch

Saturday, August 28 at 8pm Star Watch with Mike Lynch Located at the Horse Camp Make the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show in the skies over Southwestern Minnesota. We’ll have giant telescopes aimed at Jupiter, Saturn, star clusters, galaxies, and more. Live video telescopes will also be available. Birds of Southwest MN: Talk then Walk

September 4 at 10:30am Birds of Southwest MN: Talk then Walk North Picnic Shelter Learn about the birds of southwestern Minnesota. Following a 30-minute presentation, there will be a bird walk starting at 11am. If you have your own binoculars, you are welcome to use them.

Certified Nursing Assistant Training

The Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council in cooperation with Adult Basic Education and Marshall Area Technical & Educational Center have openings for adults to enroll in Nursing Assistant Training that will lead to a Certification from the MN Department of Nursing. The class Introduces concepts of basic human needs, health/illness and basic nursing skills. Introduction to home care. Including care of child, reporting procedures, caring for special populations, homemaking skills and hospice care in a nursing home.
