SIOUX FALLS (KMHL) – The city of Sioux Falls issued a Declaration of Emergency and a curfew last night as a protest and march that moved down Minnesota Avenue came to an end at the Empire Mall and began to turn violent last night.

Some of the protesters began throwing rocks at officers. Authorities say they also heard 15-20 gunshots near the mall.

Police used flash bang grenades and tear gas to disperse the protest. Sioux Falls mayor Paul TenHaken said the group was between 700 and 1200 – he said there were no serious injuries reported.
