David Zimmerman, age 71 of Westbrook formerly of Hopkins, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at his home after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 7 at Westbrook Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Interment will be in the Westbrook Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
David Zimmerman was born August 22, 1950 to Harvey and Betty Lou (Tischer) Zimmerman in Montevideo, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Hopkins. Dave graduated in 1968 from Eisenhower High School in Hopkins. After graduation, he spent two years in the Minnesota National Guard. He then joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas. While Dave was there, he was united in marriage to Linda Engelkes on October 29, 1971 in Ogden, KS. Later, Dave was stationed in Belgium for four years. After his service, Dave and Linda moved back home to Hopkins. In 1987, the couple moved to Chaska and later retired to Westbrook in 2006. Dave owned a couple businesses in remodeling and maintenance. He also worked driving truck for a couple of years. Dave was a member of the Hopkins American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Dave loved teaching his grandchildren camping, woodwork and building skills.
David is survived by his children: Brian (Lisa) Zimmerman of Westbrook and Alex (Josh) Dyche of Goldendale, WA; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; siblings: Delaine Duran of Delano and Dale (Danna) Zimmerman of Hopkins; brother-in-law Randy Engelkes of Robbinsdale; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Harvey, mother Betty Lou, wife Linda, and siblings Dean, Daniel and Dianne.
