MARSHALL — Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach visited Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center earlier this month for a roundtable discussion on healthcare concerns affecting rural Minnesota.

One of the key issues raised was the proposed federal mandate on mandatory nursing staff ratios. Avera representatives expressed concern that if implemented, this mandate could force rural nursing homes to reduce services or potentially close, leaving patients without nearby care options. Congresswoman Fischbach has been actively opposing the mandate, advocating for its reconsideration to ensure rural healthcare is not adversely affected.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of adapting healthcare regulations to evolving technology. Telehealth expansion, which has become essential in rural areas, was cited as a positive step, and Fischbach stressed the need to continue supporting access to such services.

Avera Health representatives thanked the Congresswoman for her efforts on behalf of rural healthcare.
