MARSHALL (KMHL) – Marshall Mayor Bob Byrnes will have a new role. Byrnes was announced as the Coordinator of the Highway 23 Coalition this week.

Byrnes, who has been a member of the Highway 23 Coalition Board for about a year, will now work with the board to help develop the coalition’s mission, vision and action plan.

The coalition advocates for expansions and safety improvements along the Highway 23 corridor.

In recent years, the coalition helped press for the expansion of the highway to four lanes in the Paynesville area, and a safety study to be done at the intersection of Highway 23 and Highway 7 in Clara City, which is now set to be conducted by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

One of the coalition’s main goals is to expand the 4-lane on Highway 23 from Marshall to Green Valley.
